FOSTER PARENT CURRICULUM
The Psychological Maltreatment Alliance is offering a free three-hour curriculum for foster care agencies to include in their roster of foster parent training options.
WHAT: A free three-hour curriculum on the topic of psychological maltreatment and positive parenting. The training has didactic lessons (7 types of PM, 7 principles of positive parenting), visual aids, and interactive opportunities to apply the knowledge.
Option 1: Receive slides and notes for your training team to conduct the training.
Option 2: Receive video of training along with discussion guide for your trainers to conduct the interactive components.
FOR WHOM: The training was developed for foster parents to teach them what not to do (psychological maltreatment) and what to do instead (positive parenting).
WHY: Psychological maltreatment is a widespread and often misunderstood form of child maltreatment. Information about it is generally not included in other trainings for foster parents. Foster parents may be engaging in it unintentionally. In addition, the children in their care most likely experienced it earlier in their lives, and learning about it can help the foster parents better understand the child.
